Anchorage
The Cove is certainly not a welcoming sight as you draw up next to the double docks on the far side of Ysgothi Isle. There is no real sand--rounded pebbles make up most of the beach'. The hills surrounding the anchorage are thorned with rocks, and the jagged cliffs that encircle three-quarters of the island hem in the dark sky. The thunderous surf is never quiet here, and it echoes down into the valleys, and back to you, like the beat of a giant's heart.
A violet seadragon, her smooth hide dotted in dark purple, surfaces a scant few inches away from the ship. Her opalescent eyes glimmer for a moment, watching.
As you disembark, she lashes her magnificent tail. "You are new here," the violet remarks softly, long legs treading water. "Ysgothi Cove welcomes you. I am to extend the greetings of Lord Kethtaz."
Quietly, she adds, "I am Amyss, bond of Apraiz. There are but three humans here, not including the Bondsearched, but I shall see if I can find one for you."
Amyss strokes away, eeling serpentine through the water.
You shiver in the harsh sea breeze, and glance at the ship-and the warm berth you could have stayed in-with longing. But the violet's promised help arrives in a timely fashion.
A long-legged woman sprints across the beach, somehow keeping her footing on the sea-rounded stones. She's breathing hard when she reaches the docks.
Blue eyes blink at you, set in a porcelain-white face, shadowed by a white fur hood. The young woman extends her hand, cordially. "Lady Nalanneive, Acting Covelord," she introduces, wiping her brow with a gloved hand. Wincing as the wind throws a handful of freezing spindrift up from the pier, she gestures toward the nearest cliff wall, against which a long, low building is crouched.
"That's the closest entrance," she pants. "Please, come in out of the cold. At least stay until we can outfit you properly." Nalanneive's critical examination of your northern outfit is not unkind, but there's a quirk about her mouth that suggests she finds it amusing.
