Kethtaz (KEHTH-taz) leads all, the Covelord at Ysgothi Cove. He is bonded to his sister, violet Feliss the Healer. Red Kethtaz disapproves of human bonders, Agendor seadragons, and upstart females. Most of all, he disapproves of black Khaness. His mate is blue Seless; it irks him mightily that he has to use her female rider, Nalanneive, as a human mouthpiece. He leads Unig Pod.

Feliss (feh-LIS) is a slim, quiet female, who should have been born gray. Colorless in personality, the healer dragon, bonded to her brother, red Kethtaz, is only emphatic about allowing human bonders-she's for it. She is the first female that Kethtaz listens to-even before Seless. Blue Cortez is her mate.

Torez (tor-ehz) is a none-too-wise youngling, frustrated with Kethtaz's dictatorship and hampered by considerations for his blind bonder, Brael. Hot-tempered and brash, Torez inherited most of his father's uncharming ways. Well-scarred already, he is still mateless, but hopes to corrupt one of Kethtaz and Seless's children after they grow up.

Seless (seh-LESS) is an even-tempered, intelligent seadragon with an air of amused tolerance about her. The blue may know that she's holier-than-thou, but she keeps it to herself-like most of her opinions. Her bonder is the woman Nalanneive, whose sharp tongue and mercurial temper fascinate her. Red Kethtaz is her mate.

Khaness (KHA-ness) is a savage, muscular dragon whose tastes run to outright rebellion. Ill-tempered, vicious, and determined, black Khaness is running dangerously close to challenging Kethtaz's rule and the entire seadragon ranking system. With her bond, Cortez, to egg her on, there is little to keep her from flinging herself at the Covelord and demanding that he fight her. What keeps her in check is her young mate, Thaliez, who can match her in a fight, and whose honeyed tongue is balm to her wounded ego. Raharan, Thaliez's bond, has given her ample cause to do battle for humans as well.

Cortez (core-TEHZ) is a sour, scarred old male, and the only seadragon Kethtaz respects. He's been given the honorable post of fledgling trainer by the great red, and he's the terror of all the younger seadragons. He sullenly supports his bond Khaness's suit, though he does not like females or humans in particular. The only place his brooding irritability does not strike is his beloved mate, Feliss. Her, he treats like glass, almost embarrassed to mutter an endearment. Cortez leads Bachgen Pod.

Apraiz (AP-raze) is a smallish, jocular green male whose sole distinguishing feature is a nose for bonders. A sweet-talking fellow, rather too full of himself, he's bonded and mated to clumsy violet Amyss.

Amyss (AH-miss) is a clumsy, gangly, undersized violet female, shy and graceless around her own kind. She has a talent for finding the most awkward situations-but she also hears everything that goes on in the Cove. The Ysgothi equivalent to `This is a secret' is `Don't bump into Amyss'. She's bonded and mated to green Apraiz.

Thaliez (THAL-ee-ehz) is a strong, quick, sure fighter, though he's silver-tongued, diplomatic, and even-tempered. Mostly unscarred, the swift peacemaker indigo is probably more than a match for Kethtaz. But Thaliez is satisfied with the status quo. He functions as a damper for his mate Khaness's explosive temper, and an outlet for Raharan's brooding passions.

Serberiss (SAER-baer-iss) is the oldest dragon at Ysgothi, the mother of Cortez, Khaness, and Apraiz. She has seen the death of her mate and her bond's mate. The black has fought-and won-many battles, and she leads Anwar Pod as a result of them. Serberiss is widely considered to be a little crazy, for her fighting style and her erratic personality, but her senses are still sharp, as is her mind. The fierce old female is bonded to green Maranouss.

Maranouss (mar-ah-NOOSE) is a loud, opinionated green who savors the privilege of age. Second-eldest in the group, it is she who never keeps her thoughts to herself. Half-crippled by a deep slash across her foreleg, the green is nevertheless an excellent fighter. Though her brash speech may cover the aching void left by the death of her mate, Maranouss is no one to be trifled with. Her bond, whom she worships, is black Serberiss.

Zaeiz (ZAY-isz) is an oddly colored dragon with multiple birth defects. They did not affect his mind, however, and the little lichen-colored dragon stays as far away from Seberiss and Kethtaz as possible. He's a strange, intense dragon, and swims just as fast, if not faster, than his normal siblings. Zaeiz has neither bond nor mate.
